Shrove Tuesday

Posted Tuesday 5th March 2019

Shrove Tuesday falls on the day before Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent, the period leading up to Easter. It’s usually a day of self-observance. It’s a time for Christians consider what sins need repenting and what changes to make to their lifestyle in order to focus on spiritual growth.

Fats and luxurious foods such as meats, chocolate and eggs are the most common choices to be cut out in preparation for Lent. This is where the pancakes come from! The ingredients of flour, eggs, milk and sugar are used because they are usually the staple ingredients in every house.

What are you giving up for Lent?
